Competition Judges – Phase I

The Desh Raag team is very pleased to announce the following as judges for Phase I i.e. shortlisting the top 7 songs!

Shitalchandra Kulkarni

Having been a music producer, composer, and teacher for around 2 decades now, Shitalchandra has his own studio (CHORDS India) and has aided in the recordings of over 200+ albums in various genres and released his twin album under the band name Tungztn. Shitalchandra has judged several rock music contests in the past decade. Most recently he was amongst the esteemed panel of judges for selecting the opening music band for Bryan Adams’ show in India. He runs his own school called Institute of Modern Music in Pune and is almost ready to launch his second album with Tungztn real soon.

Manoj Pandya

Having been an avid disciple of the art of music making for the past two decades and guitar playing being his forte, Manoj is also a proficient music composer, programmer and a band manager. The recipient of dual scholarships from the Berklee college of music both online-Gary Burton scholarship for the Master certificate in Guitar playing and the Fender Scholarship at the Berklee Guitar Summer sessions 2010. Manoj regularly performs and manages his bands “LAMBADA” & “SWITCH”. LAMBADA won the title of ‘Baap of all bands’ at the Idea Rocks India competition in 2009 telecast on Colors channel, Manoj being adjudged the best musician for the same.

Rita Sahai

Rita, an acclaimed composer and performer, tours extensively throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and India. She is also in demand at recording studios at home and abroad where she graciously lends her voice to many diverse musical projects including laying down vocal tracks for Grammy Award winning blue grass artist Bella Fleck and performing on Alonzo Kings Sacred Texts, a CD of international music that won the Isadora Duncan award for music excellence. Rita has produced several CDs of her own, one of which, Rangamalika, is currently entered to be considered as a Grammy nomination.

Mahesh Kale

Mahesh Kale is an accomplished vocalist from the new generation with a captivating stage presence, that has along with his uncommon musicality and vocal dexterity, positioned him firmly on the national and international radar of the North Indian Classical Music community. As a disciple of Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, he has an illustrious pedigree, and his thrilling performances bear this out. Mahesh has established his presence firmly, as a popular artist and has performed extensively in India, USA, Europe, UAE, and Southeast Asia. More recently, Mahesh had his debut performance at the prestigious Sawai Gandharva Music Festival (2011) which received a generous appreciation. He is also a teacher and an inspiration for a motivated student body of over a hundred students in the San Francisco Bay Area.
